67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, personal ideals and values in the handling of objects

67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is a short period comet discovered in September of 1969. It has a perihelion of 1.21 AU and an aphelion of 5.70 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.45 AU. It has an orbital period of 6 years and 153 days. It has an orbital incination of 3.8º.

In February 1959, a close encounter with Jupiter moved its perihelion inward (close to the Earth-Moon system), where it remains today.

67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is the destination of the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission, launched on 2 March 2004. The Rosetta spacecraft rendezvoused with the comet on 6 August 2014 and entered orbit on 10 September 2014. Rosetta's lander, Philae, is scheduled to land on the comet's surface on 11 November 2014.

"The Diary of Anne Frank" (1959)

67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is related with the self-confidence that arises before starting the physical contact, when the fulfilment of the task is in complete accordance with the personal ideals and values.

Self-efficacy in the handling of objects

"
The theory suggested by Albert Bandura (1987) proposes that the perception that has a person about her domain on the task will determine her expectations of success, and also its persistence in the implementation and the amount of effort invested in carrying out the task. Self-efficacy is based on different cognitive factors such as the history of the reinforcements, the previous evaluations and information on appropriate strategies. According to this, when students show doubts about their ability, they tend to avoid participating in that task, spend less efforts and do not persist in the face of difficulties, all this causes a lower performance than those students who feel able to cope. But self-efficacy is not the only belief that influences the behavior, the expectations about the results also have an effect on it." (UNED, 2009; "Psicología de la motivación")

(2) Pallas, practical intelligence pointed to the success of projects

What it is outstanding about (2) Pallas, is practical intelligence pointed to the success of projects through knowledge about reality and the present, practical experience, intuition on the feasibility of projects and a clever use of the resources and the time available without giving up quality (18:7 resonance with Jupiter), like in the movie "Michael Clayton" (2007) or "The Kingdom" (2007), wich is an example of assistence in interrogating the witness, searching for evidence and reaching agreements.

"The Kingdom" (2007)

The contribution of (2) Pallas is always greatly appreciated in the company for which it works; by the Community, if it works in an NGO or forms part of a political party or a community association (1:1 resonance with Ceres)

Jamie Foxx, actor of the movie "The Kingdom" (2007), has Pallas in Virgo, in the 8th cusp of the Moon-Node Horoscope. Pallas is surrounded by Uranus and Pluto, in square with the Sun in Sagittrius, in the 5th house of the Moon-Node Horoscope.

George Clooney, actor of the movie "Michael Clayton" (2007), has Pallas in Pisces squaring the Crossing Axis of Age Progressions (Signs Horoscope and Moon-Node Horoscope) in Gemini/Sagitarius.

(28) Bellona, face to face handkerchief game (catch it and run back, or run foward to touch the other kid if the kierchief is aready caught by the other)

(28) Bellona is a main belt asteroid discovered in March of 1854 and rediscovered in February of 1951. It has a perihelion of 2.36 AU and an aphelion of 3.20 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.78 AU (near the 5:2 mean motion resonance with Jupiter; and near the 2:5 resonance with Mars). It has a diameter of about 120 km. There are important photometric observations in the years 1979, 1983 and 2007. It has an inclination of 9.4º.

Roman mythology

The name "Bellona" derived from the Latin word for "war" (bellum), and is directly related to the modern English words "belligerent" (lit., "war-waging"), "bellicose" and "antebellum". In art, she is portrayed with a helmet on her head, usually wearing a breastplate or plate armour, bearing a sword, spear, shield, or other weaponry, sometimes holding a flaming torch or sounding the Horn of Victory and Defeat.

The discovery of (28) Bellona clashed with the emergence of boxing rules designed to prevent death while the combat is goning on, and with the transition from boxing for money toward sportiness.

Rules of the handkerchief game

  1. On both teams, each player is numbered.
  2. To begin, a random number is chosen by the person holding the scarf.
  3. Players from each team assigned with the called number, must come to the scarf, without crossing the dividing line.
  4. The purpose is to take the handkerchief and run back to the line of its own team.
  5. Once the handkerchief has been picked up, the other player can cross over the dividing line of each field and if the player that is taking the handkerchief is touched by the other player before he reaches back to the line of his team, it is removed of the game.
  6. The numbers of the removed players are reassigned by the rest of the players of the team.

(28) Bellona is related to the Martial syndrome of attack or escape, which produces an instinctive reaction of forward or withdrawal during a face-to-face confrontation, like in the game of the handkerchief (between take it or wait until the other player catches it), in a boxing match (between hitting or dodge) or in an auction (between increasing the bid or withdraw).

(55) Pandora, courage needed to make a big step foward

(55) Pandora is a main belt asteroid discovered in September of 1858. It has a perihelion of 2.37 AU and an aphelion of 3.15 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.76 AU (near the 8:3 mean motion resonance with Jupiter). It has a diameter of about 67 km. It has an inclination of 7.2º. There are important photometric observations in the years 1977 and 2010.

Greek mythology

Pandora was a by-product of the cyclical interaction between Prometheus and Zeus:
  1. Prometheus convinced the human beings to stay with the best part of the ox offered in sacrifice to the gods, giving to these, the bones hidden behind a layer of fat.
  2. Upon discovering the deception, Zeus punished humanity, taking away the fire.
  3. But Prometheus stole it from the gods and gave it back to the humanity.
  4. Then Zeus, in an act of supremacy, chained Prometheus to a rock in the Caucasus, where an eagle extracted his liver every day, after been regenerated during the night, due to his immortality.
  5. In addition, Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create Pandora. All the gods honored her with gifts, giving her beauty, cunning, eloquence, manual dexterity and curiosity. Zeus sent her, by means of Hermes, to Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus, in whose house was a box containing all the misfortunes that could affect humanity. Prometheus, had already warned Epimetheus to do not accept gifts from Zeus, but after seeing Pandora he could not resist. Finally, in spite of so much that he had been forbidden by Epimetheus, Pandora opened the box as Zeus had planned, and all the misfortunes were scattered throughout the world. However, the box also contained hope, which would help mankind to overcome all these evils.

"While this story has been interpreted a number of diferent ways, the interpretation that best fit the minor planet is to view the problems that were released as unforeseen challenges, and to view the hope as the better life one will have if one conquers those challenges." (Zane B. Stein)

To go out to face it

The drive and initiative of the cardinal cross is combined with the action of the fire element to give a great step forward and make decisive actions to achieve personal goals. The strength of the core of the I is necessary to be able to remain firm in the purpose and go ahead with the action taken, ready to confront everything that could get in the way.

In the movie "Tangled" (2010), the young Rapunzel lives with her mother at the top of a tower, hidden in the forest. Her mother makes her believe that the outside world is riddled with dangers and ban her to leave the tower.

Rapunzel feels an immense curiosity by the floating lights that appear on the horizon, every year the day of her birthday. That intrigue is increasing until, at the age of 18 years old, she has enough courage to asks her mother to take her to see the floating lights. But her mother dissuade her in all possible ways.

One day, while her mother is on a trip, the young Flyn, escaping from the guards of the palace, after having stolen the royal haversack, hide in the tower of Rapunzel, but she captures him and hides the haversack. Finally she reaches an agreement with him to be guide to the city, in time to see the floating lanterns.

"Tangled" (2010)

Once (55) Pandora has taken the step forward, is faced with a new and unknown situation, in which it is easy to make mistakes due to the inexperience. However, the risk is worthwhile, as it leads to self-realization and a greater integration in the society.

(212) Medea, assistant

(212) Medea is a main belt asteroid discovered in February of 1880. It has a perihelion of 2.79 AU and an aphelion of 3.45 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.12 AU (near the 11:5 mean motion resonance with Jupiter). It has an inclination of 4.3º. In the year 1987 there was an importan photometric observation.

Greek Mythology

Medea was an enchantress who
married Jason and used her magic powers and advice to assist him. Thanks to her, Jason (leader of the Argonauts) obtained the Golden Fleece from her father, King Aeëtes of Colchis.

"Homeland" (TV series, 2nd Season; 2012)

Zone of proximal development

The zone of proximal development is a concept that defined Vygotski in the years just after the discovery of (134340) Pluto and the rediscovery of (212) Medea in 1930, and that had major implications in the evolutionary vision of intelligence from the stand point of the learning potential of the student. It refers to the tasks that a student still cannot do alone, but can be done under the guidance of a professor or a more advanced companion.

The main characteristic of (212) Medea is the combination of two factors: first, the knowledge and experience on the task at hand; and second, a deep knowledge on both ends of the polarity individual work and team work, which allows you to distinguish very clearly when it is really necessary to take part, so that the autonomy is maximized.

(212) Medea is related with the help or assistance in three types of situations: (1) learning or training, (2) evaluation or review, and (3) tasks that can only be done between two people.

(5370) Taranis, threatening material objects

(5370) Taranis is a centaur in 2:1 resonance with Jupiter, discovered in September of 1986. Its orbit is between Earth-Mars and Jupiter. It has a perihelion of 1.21 AU and an aphelion of 5.44 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.33 AU. It has a diameter of about 3.6 km. It has an inclination of 19.0º.

(5370) Taranis was discovered in the months following the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl, ocurred in April of 1986:

"The Chernobyl disaster is the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and resulting deaths, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event (the maximum classification) on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011).

Immediately after the accident, the greater concern focused in the radioactive iodine, with a half-life of eight days. To date 2011, concerns are focused on the contamination of ground with strontium-90 and cesium-137, with half-lives of about 30 years. The highest levels of cesium-137 were found in the superficial layers of the ground, where they are absorbed by plants, insects and fungi, entering in the food chain." (Wikipedia: Chernobyl disaster)

Celtic mythology

Taranis was the Gaulish god of thunder (Irish 'torann' and Gallic 'Taran'), especially worshiped in the northwest of the Iberian peninsula (Asturias). His symbols were the wheel and the thunderbolt.

"A yang line develops below two yin lines and presses upward forcibly.  This movement is so violent that it arouses terror. It is symbolized by thunder,  which bursts forth from the earth and by its shock causes fear and trembling." (hexagram 51 of I-Ching)

Threatening material objects

(5370) Taranis is related with threatening material objects, that cause restlessness, fear or terror.

"Open Water" (2004)

Intense faith even in adverse material circumstances

On the other hand, (5370) Taranis is also able to develop a strong faith, that is not supported by any tangible circumstance of the environment, like the leap of faith at the end of the movie "Labyrinth" (1986).

"When a man has learned within his heart what fear and trembling mean, he is safeguarded against any terror produced by outside influences. Let the thunder roll and spread terror a hundred miles around: he remains so composed and reverent in spirit that the sacrificial rite is not interrupted. This is the spirit that must animate leaders and rulers of men— a profound inner seriousness from which all terrors glance off harmlessly." (Judgement of hexagram 51 of I-Ching)

(4) Vesta, enhaced focus of attention

(4) Vesta is a main belt asteroid discovered in March of 1807. It has a perihelion of 2.15 AU and an aphelion of 2.57 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.36 AU. It has a diameter of 525 km. There are important observations in the years 1880-1882, 1909, 1966, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1996, 2001, and especially, between August of 2011 and May of 2012.

Roman mythology

Vesta was named after the virgin goddess of sacred fire of home and hearth.

The main quality of (4) Vesta is her capability to centre the focus of attention, even though for a brief moment, like when a basketball player bowl ball to the basket after a fast movement through field or when a photografic camera is pointed (1st House example).

"When a Stranger Calls" (2006)

Obviously, there is quite a lot of difference if the element on which is (4) Vesta is masculine (fire-air) or feminine (earth-water). The call forth of a reminisce, for example, requires a much more long and wide attention (Cancer sign example).

(100) Hekate, counsels that assist and console

(100) Hekate is a main belt asteroid in 11:5 resonance with Jupiter discovered in July of 1868. It has a perihelion of 2.6 AU and an aphelion of 3.6 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.09 AU. There was an important observation in August of 1955 and July of 2003.

Greek mythology

Hekate was a goddess of wichcraft and is shown holding two torches or a key. She is called the "tender-hearted", a euphemism perhaps intended to emphasize her concern with the disappearance of Persephone, when she assisted Demeter with her search for Persephone following her abduction by Hades. Hekate speaked to the grieved Demeter with sweet words suggesting that she should speak to the god of the sun, Helios. Subsequently she became Persephone's companion on her yearly journey to and from the realms of Hades. (Wikipedia)

(100) Hekate gives counsels that assist and console, like in the movies "Noel" (2004) and "Brother Bear" (2003), when Kenai explains to Koda that his mother is not going to come back.

The astronomical observation of (100) Hekate in the year 2003, was overstriked by the discoveries of (136199) Eris and (208996) 2003 AZ84, which bring on very psychological conversations.

(2) Pallas, politics

(2) Pallas is an asteroid from the main belt discovered in March of 1802. It has a perihelion of 2.13 AU and an aphelion of 3.41 AU. It has an inclination of 34.8º. It has a diameter of about 500 km. There are important observations in May of 1983 and September of 2007.

Greek mythology

Pallas Athena is the goddess of wisdom, civilization, warfare, strength, strategy, female arts, crafts, justice and skill.

Athena competed with Poseidon to be the patron deity of Athens. They agreed that each would give the Athenians one gift and that the Athenians would choose the gift they preferred. Poseidon offered the first horse. Athena, however, offered them the first domesticated olive tree. The Athenians (or their king, Cecrops) accepted the olive tree and with it the patronage of Athena, for the olive tree brought wood, oil, and food. (Wikipedia: Athena)

The eighteenth century is the golden age of tractates, of abstract speculations on the best form of government, justice, economy, moral, etc... (Raymond Trousson, 1995)
