(212) Medea, assistant

(212) Medea is a main belt asteroid discovered in February of 1880. It has a perihelion of 2.79 AU and an aphelion of 3.45 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.12 AU (near the 11:5 mean motion resonance with Jupiter). It has an inclination of 4.3º. In the year 1987 there was an importan photometric observation.

Greek Mythology

Medea was an enchantress who
married Jason and used her magic powers and advice to assist him. Thanks to her, Jason (leader of the Argonauts) obtained the Golden Fleece from her father, King Aeëtes of Colchis.

Zone of proximal development

The zone of proximal development is a concept that defined Vygotski in the years just after the discovery of (134340) Pluto and the rediscovery of (212) Medea in 1930, and that had major implications in the evolutionary vision of intelligence from the stand point of the learning potential of the student. It refers to the tasks that a student still cannot do alone, but can be done under the guidance of a professor or a more advanced companion.

The main characteristic of (212) Medea is the combination of two factors: first, the knowledge and experience on the task at hand; and second, a deep knowledge on both ends of the polarity individual work and team work, which allows you to distinguish very clearly when it is really necessary to take part, so that the autonomy is maximized.

(212) Medea is related with the help or assistance in three types of situations: (1) learning or training, (2) evaluation or review, and (3) tasks that can only be done between two people.

(100) Hekate, counsels that assist and console

(100) Hekate is a main belt asteroid in 11:5 resonance with Jupiter discovered in July of 1868. It has a perihelion of 2.6 AU and an aphelion of 3.6 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.09 AU. There was an important observation in August of 1955 and July of 2003.

Greek mythology

Hekate was a goddess of wichcraft and is shown holding two torches or a key. She is called the "tender-hearted", a euphemism perhaps intended to emphasize her concern with the disappearance of Persephone, when she assisted Demeter with her search for Persephone following her abduction by Hades. Hekate speaked to the grieved Demeter with sweet words suggesting that she should speak to the god of the sun, Helios. Subsequently she became Persephone's companion on her yearly journey to and from the realms of Hades. (Wikipedia)

(100) Hekate gives counsels that assist and console, like in the movies "Noel" (2004) and "Brother Bear" (2003), when Kenai explains to Koda that his mother is not going to come back.

The astronomical observation of (100) Hekate in the year 2003, was overstriked by the discoveries of (136199) Eris and (208996) 2003 AZ84, which bring on very psychological conversations.
