Relevant character

The greatest contribution of Stephen Jay Gould (10/09/1941) to the science was the theory of 'punctuated equilibrium', which he developed together with Niles Eldredge in 1972, and which proposes that most processes of biological evolution are characterized by long periods of evolutionary stability, wich is infrequently punctuated by swift periods of branching evolution.

At age 40, he was diagnosed with a cancer (peritoneal mesothelioma), which affects the abdominal lining and that is often found in people who have been exposed to asbestos. After a dificult two-years recovery, Gould published an article entitled «The median isn't the message», in which he explains his reaction to discovering that patients with this type of cancer had a median mortality of only eight months after diagnosed; and this relief upon realizing that statistical averages are useful abstractions, but do not cover the full range of possibilities, since some patients last longer and others survive. To determine where he was within the set of possibilities, he took into account the fact that the disease was detected early, that he was young, optimistic, and had the best treatments available. Thus, he assumed that he was in the favorable half of the upper statistical range.

After an experimental treatment of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, Gould made a full recovery and his article became a source of inspiration for many other cancer patients.

(8373) Stephengould is related with situations in which faith is kept, despite the initial impossibility to act (2:1 resonance with Jupiter; 7:9 resonance with Ceres-Pallas), like Sarah Connor at the beginning of the movie "Terminator 2 - Judgment Day" (1991).

"The champion of the Tour does not fall off. True or false?"

"A review of the last editions of the Tour favors the conclusion that the final winner will be a man who will come out unscathed from all accidents that occur. Induráin did not know a single stumble in the five editions that was awarded. No fall, no cut -except in one of the first stages of the year 1991- They said that Indurain always went ahead, that his level of concentration was so high that he could resist that pressure.

[...] Some specialists in sports psychology came to the conclusion that the sportsman's subconscious may be behind some injuries or accidents. The fear to win, the pressure of competition, torments the sportsman in such a way that the subconscious manages to fix the problem: an apparently fortuitous injury, an accident... a fall. That theory would explain that only the strongest come out unscathed to pressure, as if it were a previous natural selection.

[...] The champion of the Tour does not fall off. True or false? Any conjecture will have to wait until 27th of July [1997], when a cyclist raises his arms on the podium in Paris. He will have been the strongest physically and mentally, but so strong as to have been sure of escaping unharmed from any adversity? We will examine if he has scratches on his body and we will review what he had done throughout the race. And if he has arrived to Paris without any scratch, we will have the same answer: "He has had the luck of the champion". (El país.com, 10 julio 1997, [text in Spanish] http://elpais.com/diario/1997/07/10/deportes/868485604_850215.html)

"Rush" (2013)

(316720) 1998 BE7 is related with trials and challenges that are almost impossible. To overcome them it is essential to have a lot of luck, like in elite sports competitions, or in the travels of illegal immigrants through the desert of Africa to reach Europe.

(
316720) 1998 BE7 combines the Mars ability to fight and the will to achieve aims, with the faith and positive expectations of Jupiter. For the self-organization of elements to be in favor, the unconscious parapsychological activity has to work in the same direction as the conscious will; something that can only be achieved if the will purpose is very deep and there is no doubt (11:5 resonance with Jupiter).

(3552) Don Quixote, special ability to handle objects

(3552) Don Quixote is a centaur discovered in September of 1983. The orbit is between Earth and Jupiter-Saturn. It has a perihelion of 1.21 AU and an aphelion of 7.23 AU. It has an inclination of 31.0º. It has a diameter of about 18 km.

Spanish literature

Named for the eccentric hero of Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote of La Mancha, who was fascinated with books of chivalry and went out in search for adventure.

Arcade and aerobics

The discovery of (3552) Don Quixote clashed with the golden age of arcade machines (which were managed with a joystick and two buttons) and the popularization of aerobics in the eighties, in wich the movements arms and legs are sincronized with the beat of the music.

Handle of objects

(3552) Don Quixote is the third centaur that was discovered, after Hidalgo in 1920 and Chiron in 1977. It is a classical centaur, related with the entire control of the body and the senses, especially sight, hearing, the sense of balance and pressure.

"Flashdance" (1983)

However, what it is really outstanding about (3552) Don Quixote is the ability to handle objects, like in fencing, pole-vaulting, tennis, artistic gymnastics, figure skating, couple dance, horse riding, driving, work with industrial machinery or playing with pinball and arcade machines.

(5370) Taranis, threatening material objects

(5370) Taranis is a centaur in 2:1 resonance with Jupiter, discovered in September of 1986. Its orbit is between Earth-Mars and Jupiter. It has a perihelion of 1.21 AU and an aphelion of 5.44 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.33 AU. It has a diameter of about 3.6 km. It has an inclination of 19.0º.

(5370) Taranis was discovered in the months following the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl, ocurred in April of 1986:

"The Chernobyl disaster is the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and resulting deaths, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event (the maximum classification) on the International Nuclear Event Scale (the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011).

Immediately after the accident, the greater concern focused in the radioactive iodine, with a half-life of eight days. To date 2011, concerns are focused on the contamination of ground with strontium-90 and cesium-137, with half-lives of about 30 years. The highest levels of cesium-137 were found in the superficial layers of the ground, where they are absorbed by plants, insects and fungi, entering in the food chain." (Wikipedia: Chernobyl disaster)

Celtic mythology

Taranis was the Gaulish god of thunder (Irish 'torann' and Gallic 'Taran'), especially worshiped in the northwest of the Iberian peninsula (Asturias). His symbols were the wheel and the thunderbolt.

"A yang line develops below two yin lines and presses upward forcibly.  This movement is so violent that it arouses terror. It is symbolized by thunder,  which bursts forth from the earth and by its shock causes fear and trembling." (hexagram 51 of I-Ching)

Threatening material objects

(5370) Taranis is related with threatening material objects, that cause restlessness, fear or terror.

"Open Water" (2004)

Intense faith even in adverse material circumstances

On the other hand, (5370) Taranis is also able to develop a strong faith, that is not supported by any tangible circumstance of the environment, like the leap of faith at the end of the movie "Labyrinth" (1986).

"When a man has learned within his heart what fear and trembling mean, he is safeguarded against any terror produced by outside influences. Let the thunder roll and spread terror a hundred miles around: he remains so composed and reverent in spirit that the sacrificial rite is not interrupted. This is the spirit that must animate leaders and rulers of men— a profound inner seriousness from which all terrors glance off harmlessly." (Judgement of hexagram 51 of I-Ching)

(37117) Narcissus, overcome the obstacles and self-limitations that impede nourish

(37117) Narcissus is an asteroid of the main belt discovered in November of 2000. It has a perihelion of 3.1 AU and an aphelion of 10.7 AU (Saturn-crosser asteroid). It has a diameter of about 11 km. There is a prediscovery image back to March of 1984. There is an important astronomical observation in February of 2002.

Greek mythology

In Greek mythology, the nymph Eco covered up unfaithfulness of Zeus to Hera, entertaining her with significant conversation, while Zeus had fun with his lovers, until Hera punished her obstructing her speak: she only could repeat the last word pronounced by her speaker.

Later, Eco fell in love with Narcissus, but because she could not speak, she could not show her love. Until the day that he was walking in the woods and he separated from his compains for a moment. When he asked: «Is someone here?», Eco answered: «Here, here». He was incapable of saw her hidden by the trees, Narcissus yelled: «¡Come!». After answering: «Come», Eco comed out of the trees with opened arms, but Narcissus refused her love in a cruelty way. Eco, ruined, hided in a cave and stopped eating, reducing herself until only her voice was left.

Eco was not the first, Narcissus already turned down many other women. So he knew unreturned love, Nemesis (goddess of revenge) made him fell in love with his own reflection in a pool and died as a result. The clairvoyant Tiresias foretelled on the day of his birth that he will live long, if he avoid watching him self.

The orbit of (37117) Narcissus unite the main asteroids belt (nutrition) with Saturn (creation of structures and establishment of limits). However, the orbit of (37117) Narcissus cross over the orbit of Saturn, going a bit into the Uranus influence (fragmentizer of structures).

The main theme of (37117) Narcissus is to overcome the obstacles and self-limitations that impede nourish, no matter if that is in the physical level (feed), in the emotional level (fond), in the mental level (culture) or in the level of the soul (intuition).

Anorexia (physical level)

Anorexia is a disease that can commence in five different ways: (1) the person distort the notion that has about herself, influenced by social stereotypes, beginning unhealthy diets; (2) resignation to feed by oneself determination, as a protestation; (3) carries forward a physical training without an appropriated diet; (4) has to deal with extreme work (or class) timetables; or (5) has to live on the breadline of nourishment. In any case, the person does not feed enough.

Like people that take drugs or healthy people that take psychotropic medication by his own determination [self-medication, without medical recommendation], because of brain plasticity, the brain modify its internal structure to adapt and face excess or deficiency of neurotransmitters. From that moment, the problem, initially a problem because the situation, a physical or psychological problem, becomes a psychiatric problem, based in the disequilibrium of neurotransmitters of satiate or hunger.

The sensation of hunger is reduced eventually; at the same time, because of stop eating, the person feels more and more weak, that result in less will to live or to go for help. Because several factors join together in the same direction, the disease evolve very fast and in extreme cases cause death.

The main characteristic of the people that recover from a serious anorexia is less vivacity in the voice and the main trouble that they have to face is the effort eating, because in most cases they have to do it without hunger. Like people that take drugs or healthy people that take
psychotropic medication by his own determination [self-medication, without medical recommendation] for many years, the brain plasticity allow to recover back the equilibrium of the initial internal structure to some extent, however, it is not a fully reversible process, since with each modification occurs neuronal death.

The culture of New Age (mental and soul level)

During the prediscovery of (37117) Narcissus, appeared several books that described very well the sceptic people that are unable to benefit from the New Age culture. For example, in the book "World of the Paranormal: The Next Frontier" (Le Shan, 1984), the author argue this way:

«We can see the problem clearly when think about the colleagues of Galileo who refused to look through the telescope. They refused because it was unnecessary to look; they had confused their theory with the facts. As far as they were concerned, they knew the facts and there was simply no point in observing a contradictory fact; the telescope's view was necessarily false because it contradicted known facts. At this distance we can see their reasoning and their confusion clearly. It is, however, harder to see when the modern scientist, not looking at the facts of parapsychology, simply dismisses them as necessarily false and therefore unnecessary to examine, since --for him-- they contradict a known fact.» (Le Shan, 1984)

Another example it is in the introduction of the book "Every Day Tarot: A Choice Centred Book" (Gail Fairfield, 1984), where the author argue this way:

"Everyone has psychic capability, just as everyone can potentially float in the water. People who have been taught to be afraid of the water, who believe that the water can hurt them, may never choose to learn to float. Similarly, those who have been taught to distrust, discount, or fear psychic processes, may find it difficult to openly accept and explore them. By working through those fears, people can reshape their beliefs and embrace their own psychic potential. [...] If you really believe that you are not lovable, no one can prove to you that you are. [...] No matter what loving things people say or do, you'll discount them. You'll tell yourself that they can't possibly know what they're talking about and that their judgement can't be trusted. You continue to reinforce the belief that you're not lovable. [...] If you believe that you're not psychic, the same process holds true. No matter what happens, you'll dismiss it as coincidence, happenstance, or a trick. If you believe that you can't be psychic, you won't be psychic." (Gail Fairfield, 1984)

(944) Hidalgo, self-defence of nourishment support

(944) Hidalgo is a centaur discovered in October of 1920 and named in September of 1923. It has a perihelion of 2.0 AU and an aphelion of 9.5. Its orbit is between the main asteroids belt and Saturn. It has a diameter of about 40 km.

It is named for Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who was responsible for declaring Mexico's independence in 1810. German astronomers who were in Mexico to observe a total eclipse on September 10, 1923, had an audience with President Álvaro Obregón. During this meeting, they asked his permission to name the asteroid after Hidalgo y Costilla. (Wikipedia)

'Hidalgo' is an old word in Spanish language, that comes from the set phrase "Hijo de algo", meaning son of someone wealth, but untitled as a noble.

Hacienda system

'Hacienda' is a Spanish word for the buildings construction were live the master of the land, the workers and is storage the tools for agriculture and livestock, and foodstaff. The hacienda system was status oriented, rather than economic oriented.

The movie "The Mark of Zorro" (1920), tells the story of Don Diego de la Vega, a nobleman son of a spanish hacendado that lived in the pueblo of Los Angeles in California at the begining of the nineteen century. Don Diego de la Vega disguises as the Zorro to fight against the injustice of authority and defend the oppressed.

(944) Hidalgo combines the defence and physical protection quality of Saturn with the nourishment quality of the main belt.

In the year 2010 appeared the Spanish movie "También la luvia (Even the Rain)", inspired by the Cochabamba protests of 2000, also known as the Cochabamba Water War, were a series of protests that took place in Cochabamba, Bolivia's third largest city, between December 1999 and April 2000 in response to the privatisation of the city's municipal water supply company Semapa. The new firm, Aguas del Tunari was required to invest in construction of long-envisioned dam (a priority of Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa) - so they dramatically raised water rates. Protests, largely organized through the Coordinator in Defence of Water and Life, a community coalition, erupted in January, February, and April, culminating in tens of thousands marching downtown and battling police.
