(32) Pomona, ability to create alliances

(32) Pomona is a main belt asteroid discovered in October of 1854. It was spotted without being identified in September of 1945, September of 1949 and December of 1950.

It has a perihelion of 2.37 AU and an aphelion of 2.79 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.58 AU. It has an orbital period of 4 years and 58 days. It has an inclination of   5.5º. It has a diameter of about 81 km.


A star occultation occurred in August of 2008. Photometric observation were made in October of 2002 and February of 2009.

The rediscovery of (32) Pomona clashed with the foundation of the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), an organization which constitutes a system of collective defense, in which member states agree to defend any of its members if they are attacked by an outside faction.


Roman mythology

Pomona was de goddess of fruit trees.

The mythology of Pomona symbolizes the union of the fruits, through the branches around the trunk of the tree as a central element.

(32) Pomona is related with the ability to create agreements, alliances and cooperatives between individuals, businesses, institutions or countries.
