The orbit is located at the outer main belt. It has a perihelion of 2.58 AU and an aphelion of 3.52 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.05 AU. It has an orbital period of 5 years and 127 days. It has an inclination of 17.3º. It has a diameter of about 317 km.
Photometric observations were carry out in the years1983, 2001, 2007 and 2014. There were star occultations in the year 1996 and in March of 2003.

Interamnia ('between two rivers') is the Latin name of Teramo, an Italian city in the Abruzzo region.
The discovery of (704) Interamnia clashed with the Gestalt psychology, a school of thought of modern psychology that appeared in Germany at the beginning of the century 20. The term 'gestalt' can be translated as "form", "figure", "configuring", "structure" or "creation".
Through internal schemas, the brain simplifies perceptual information and evocation of memories. The Gestalt psychology described some of these principles:
- Law of Good Gestalt, that predisposes to adopt the simplest possible shapes, such as circles, squares, triangles, lines...
- Law of Similarity, that predisposes to group similar items, depending on its size, shape, color...
- Law of Proximity, that predisposes to consider adjacent components or very close to each other as an unit.
- Law of Simetry, that predisposes to consider them as an unit.
- Law of Continuity, that predisposes to consider the details that follow a pattern or direction as continuous lines.
- Law of Common Fate, that predisposes to consider a group of elements that follow the same direction as an unique figure.
- Law of equivalence, that predisposes to consider similar elements as part of a group.
- Law of figure-ground relation, which prevents to interpret an object as background and figure at the same time: an item appears as figure and the other as background, and vice versa.
These internal schemas allow to manage the excess of information in easily and very fast (3:16 resonance with the Earth-Moon system), but in occasions may induce to inexplicable or funny errors. The magicians of shows are experts in 'illusory knowledge' and they know how to exploit these gaps in perception or in memory (11:2 resonance with Saturn).
(704) Interamnia is related with the ability to construct mental schemas, and especially to adapt and restructure the existing ones (4: 5 resonance with Eunomia).
