(130) Elektra is a main belt asteroid (outer zone II) discovered in February of 1873.

The orbit is located at th outer zone of the main belt. It has a perihelion of 2.47 AU and an aphelion of 3.77 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.12 AU. It has an orbital period of 5 years and 189 days. It has an inclination of 22.9º (semioctile 22º30', 0º22' orb). It has a diameter of about 182 km.

Two satellites, of about 5 and 7 km, were discovered in August 2003 and December 2014.

Stellar occultation occurred in April 2008. Photometric observations were made in the year 1987.

Greek mythology

Electra was the daughter of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae, and his wife Clytemnestra. She had two sisters, Iphigenia and Chrysothemis, and one brother, Orestes.

After ten years of war in Troy, Agamemnon returned to Mycenae with Kassandra and his two twin sons, but was killed by Clytemnestra and Aegisthus, her lover. With the help of the wet nurse Arsínoe, Electra saved her younger brother --who was then a young kid-- and took him to Mount Parnassus, in Fanote, where she gived him to King Strophius for his care.

When Orestes turned twenty, the Delphic oracle suggested that he should return and avenge his father's death.

Orestes and Electra met at Agamemnon's tomb, where they agreed to revenge. With the help of Pylades, son of King Strophius, and accompanied by Electra, Orestes killed his mother and her lover.

(580) Selene, reciprocal connection

(580) Selene is a main belt asteroid discovered in December of 1905. It was spotted without being identified in september of 1950.

It has a perihelion of 2.96 AU and an aphelion of 3.49 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.23 AU. It has an orbital period of 5 years and 295 days. It has an inclination of 3.6º.

Greek mythology

The etymology of Selene is connected to the word 'selas', which means 'light'; she was the goddess of the full moon and was represented as a woman dressed in tunics and with a crescent on her head, carrying a torch. She drove a cart of silver pulled by a pair of white horses or oxens.

Selene was known for its romance with the beautiful mortal Endymion. Selene saw him from the top and slipped from heaven to earth to have a passionate relationship with him.

Endimion asked Zeus to grant him the eternal sleep and the ability to sleep with open eyes, so he could be able to contemplate the moon. All the nights, Selene kissed him on his lips, while he slept with open eyes. From this love fifty children were born.

(444) Gyptis is a main belt asteroid discovered in March of 1899. It was spotted without being identified in april of 1950.

It has a perihelion of 2.28 AU and an aphelion of 3.25 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.76 AU. It has an orbital period of 4 years and 222 days. It has an inclination of 10.2º. It has a diameter of about 160 km. There are photometric observations in the years 1979 and 2004. There are stelar occultations in October of 2008 and February of 2008.

(2577) Litva is a hungarian asteroid discovered in March of 1975. It was spotted without being identified in november of 1934, may of 1954 and september of 1976.

The orbit is between Mars and the inner main belt. It has a perihelion of 1.64 AU and an aphelion of 2.16 AU. The semimajor axis is at 1.90 AU. It has an orbital period of 2 years and 230 days. It has an inclination of  22.9º (semioctile, 0º24' orb).

It has two satellites discovered in February of 2009 and June of 2012 (announced in December of 2013).

Parthenope in Greek mythology

Parthenope was a very beautiful woman, but Aphrodite transformed her into a mermaid.

The legend tells that Odysseus, venturing into a zone of sirens, ordered to his crew --according to Council of Circe-- to clog the ears with wax to prevent their influence. He did not clogged his ears to be able to enjoy the songs, but asked his crew to tie him to the mast. Parthenope, failing to seduce Odysseus with her songs, threw her self to the sea and drowned. The waves dragged up her body to the shore of the beach, where it was buried with multiple honours.

(21) Lutetia is a main belt asteroid discovered in November of 1852.

It has a perihelion of 2.03 AU and an aphelion of 2.83 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.43 AU. It has an orbital period of 3 years and 292 days. It has an inclination of   3.0º. It has a diameter of about 100 km.

It was observed by the spacecraft Rosetta in July of 2010.

Lutetia was the Latin name of the city that stood where Paris was later built. An aqueduct, 26 km in length, with a flow rate estimated at 2000 cubic meters a day, provided the city with spring water collected from several points.
