Greek mythology

For a long time, Pygmalion, King of Cyprus, was searching, without finding her, a woman whose beauty corresponded to his ideal of woman. In the end, he decided to build a statue that reflected those ideals of beauty.

Pygmalion eventually fell in love with the statue, which he called Galatea. Thanks to Aphrodite, one night he dreamed that Galatea had came to life. And when he woke up, Pygmalion met Aphrodite, who was very touched and said: "You deserve that happiness, the one you have made. Here you have the queen you have been looking for. Love her and defend her".

The discovery of (96189) Pygmalion clashed with the release of the movie "The Beauty and the Beast" (Disney, 1991).

(96189) Pygmalion is related with the touching moments of dramatic tension, typical of 'Venus in square', in which the solution for love demands to take the most difficult path.

"Prince of Persia - Sands of Time" (2010)

The effort to overcome the resistances of the situation, leads to decisive actions that consolidate the love relationship (1:4 resonance with Venus), like in the romantic novels of Nicholas Sparks: "The Notebook" (1996) , "Message in a Bottle" (1998), "A Walk to Remember" (1999), "Nights in Rodanthe" (2002), "Dear John" (2006), "The Choice" (2008), "The Last Song" (2009), "Safe Heaven" (2010), "The Best of Me" (2011) and "The Longest Ride" (2013).

"Safe Heaven" (2013)

Nicholas Spark, author of romantic novels, has Pygmalion in Gemini and in the 12th Moon-Node House, near Jupiter; in square with Uranus-Pluto in Virgo and the 9th Moon-Node House; In square with Quiron and Sylvia in Pisces and in the 3rd Moon-Node House; And near the opposition with Mercury in Sagittarius and in the 6th Moon-Node House.

(25) Phocaea, techniques of food preservation

(25) Phocaea is a main belt asteroid (inner zone II) discovered in April of 1853. It was spotted without being identified in April of 1956.

Its orbit is in the inner zone of the main belt (it is part of the group of asteroids in 3:2 resonance with Hygiea). It has a perihelion of 1.78 AU and an aphelion of 3.01 AU. The semimajor axis is at 2.40 AU. It has an orbital period of 3 years and 262 days. It has an inclination of  21.6º (golden aspect 21º15' [=golden aspect 68º45' > 0º Cancer], 0º20' orb).
It has a diameter of about 61 km.

Phthometric observations were carried out in the year 2010.

Resonancia orbital (semieje mayor):

-
3:2 with Hygiea (99.9)
-
15:13 with Eunomia (99.9)
11:10 with Amphitrite (99.8)
19:13 with Europa (99.8)

Geographical place

The town Phocea (name derived from the word 'seal') was founded in the 8th century by Greek settlers in present-day Turkey. Thanks to its ports, it developed an important maritime economy along the western Mediterranean (Masalia, Nice, Tartessos, Ampurias, Alalia, Corsica and Velia).

The asteroid Phocae is related with all kinds of techniques of food preservation.

In ancient times, the most common were by dehydration, such as drying in the sun, adding salt, sugar or smoke; modifying the pH by adding vinegar; or, through fermentation, like the manufacture of cheeses made from milk.

During the discovery of the asteroid Phocaea, sterilization techniques were invented, such as Pasteurization; and subsequently refrigeration, freezing, vacuum packaging or in a protected atmosphere, and the addition of chemical preservatives.

Relevant character

The greatest contribution of Stephen Jay Gould (10/09/1941) to the science was the theory of 'punctuated equilibrium', which he developed together with Niles Eldredge in 1972, and which proposes that most processes of biological evolution are characterized by long periods of evolutionary stability, wich is infrequently punctuated by swift periods of branching evolution.

At age 40, he was diagnosed with a cancer (peritoneal mesothelioma), which affects the abdominal lining and that is often found in people who have been exposed to asbestos. After a dificult two-years recovery, Gould published an article entitled «The median isn't the message», in which he explains his reaction to discovering that patients with this type of cancer had a median mortality of only eight months after diagnosed; and this relief upon realizing that statistical averages are useful abstractions, but do not cover the full range of possibilities, since some patients last longer and others survive. To determine where he was within the set of possibilities, he took into account the fact that the disease was detected early, that he was young, optimistic, and had the best treatments available. Thus, he assumed that he was in the favorable half of the upper statistical range.

After an experimental treatment of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, Gould made a full recovery and his article became a source of inspiration for many other cancer patients.

(8373) Stephengould is related with situations in which faith is kept, despite the initial impossibility to act (2:1 resonance with Jupiter; 7:9 resonance with Ceres-Pallas), like Sarah Connor at the beginning of the movie "Terminator 2 - Judgment Day" (1991).

Greek mythology

Hestia was the goddess of hearth.

(46) Hestia is related with puting in order the home and creating a peaceful atmosphere. It is particularly important in times of change of housing, when the boxes are unpacked and it is decided were to put each thing (1:4 resonance with the Earth-Moon system).

(46) Hestia is also related with yoga, were stretching are keep up in fixed positions (1:4 resonance with the Earth-Moon system).
