(566) Stereoskopia, searching the differences between two almost identical images

(566) Stereoskopia is a cybele asteroid discovered in May of 1905. There is a prediscovery image back to June of 1905. It was spotted without being identified in May of 1899, June of 1899, July of 1905, November of 1907, March of 1927 and April of 1928.

It has a perihelion of 2.98 AU and an aphelion of 3.77 AU. The semimajor axis is at 3.38 AU. It has an orbital period of 6 years and 79 days. It has an inclination of 4.9º.

Optical illusion

Stereoscopy is a technique that allows to create the illusion of depth in a photograph or movie, by presenting to each eye slightly different images, as it happens during the normal vision of the eye when seeing reality. It was invented by Charles Wheatstone in 1840.

The discovery of (566) Stereoskopia clashed with the use of astronomical photography to discovery asteroids. It is part of the group of Gestalt asteroids, which were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century.

(566) Stereoskopia is related with the searching of differences between two almost identical images (21:11 resonance with Jupiter; 7:12 resonance with Vesta).

Nordic Mythology

Freyja was the goddess of single women, and especially of widows.

Her husband Oor, disappeared on one of his trips. Tired of her widow status and yearning for her husband, Freyja finally undertook her search, crossing many lands, in which she was known by different names: Hörn (Lino), Gefn (La Generosa), Sýr (La del Pork), Mardöl (Glowing in the Sea), Thrungva (The Outbreak) and also Vanadís (Lady of the Vanes). Her tears turned to gold before touching the ground, which have been scattered all over the places she went through.

On hers frequent trips, Freyja was traveling aboard a carrige pulled by cats or mounted on Hildisvín, his golden boar. She also wore a coat of feathers that, when put on, transforms it into an eagle, allowing her to move through the sky faster than any other god.

Freyja appeared casually when the Brisingos (four blacksmith dwarfs) were forging the brilliant Brisingamén necklace. She was so delighted that she wanted to keep it. She offered them gold, silver and jewels, but the dwarves were not interested in wealth, what they wanted was her; she got the collar by sleeping one night with each of them.

Due to her beauty, she was also called Mardöll (sea light), Gersimi (jewel) and Menglödh (cheerful with her necklace). When she appeared dressed with her necklace, no man could resist her charms. She chose her lovers with total freedom, no god could force her to take who she did not want.

In addition, Freyja was also goddess of the 'seid' magic, associated with the afterlife, with which she could wake the dead to obtain hidden knowledge or find out the future. In the art of her practice she was Odin's teacher.

The asteroid Freia is related with evaluation capacity, receptive attitude and adequate internal predisposition to find a partner.

Greek mythology

At first, the name chosen to call this asteroid was "Maximiliana" in honor to the King Maximilian II of Bavaria. But at that time, by convention, asteroids received classical mythological names and many astronomers protested.

In a hunting day, in which it began to rain, Atalanta and Hippomenes took refuge in a temple of Cybele and made love there, enraging the goddess for doing so in a sacred place. Cybele transformed them in male lions and sentenced them to look each at a diferent side so that they never would be able to see each other again.

(65) Cybele is related with the beliefs and structures of thought that determine the philosophy and personal way of seeing things.
