Greek mythology
Helen (also known as Helen of Sparta or Helen of Troy) was the woman to whom Aphrodite promised to Paris. Helen was married with Menelao and had a 9-year-old daughter (Hermione) when she ran away with the Trojans.
Paris went to Sparta, where he was received hospitably by Menelaus and Helen. However, during his stay, Menelao had to travel to Crete to attend the funeral for the death of his maternal grandfather, Catreo.
When Helen reached the age of marriage, she had many suitors who came from all parts of Greece, encouraged by her great beauty and because she and her future husband would reign in Sparta. Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, fearing to provoke a war between the rejected suitors, followed the advice of Odysseus, which consisted in forcing the suitors to abide by the decision about wich will be the husband of Helen. Once the oath was made, Tyndareus chose Menelao, brother of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae, who was married to his other daughter, Clytemnestra.
